Tucson Festival of Books (TFOB) Young Authors Competition
Altrusa International of Tucson, Inc., a nonprofit volunteer organization whose activities focus on literacy,
sponsors the Young Authors' Competition for the Tucson Festival of Books every March.
Altrusa provides a $100 gift certificate to the University of Arizona Bookstore,
which young authors may use right away, for each of the winning entries. Winners
also receive a bag with a journal and pen, a book by Amanda Gorman and they may also
choose another book written by one of the authors speaking at the festival this year.
The 2024 Young Authors' Contest winners are from different Tucson area schools and, in addition,
4 of the winners are home schooled.
Altrusa is focused on giving books away to kids in our community! We also hunt for and fill up
neglected Little Free Libraries and help with a preschool library at Tully Elementary.
A celebration of Young Authors winners is scheduled for April, a social event at the Hotel McCoy.
There, students can share a winning poem or short story since they are just recognized at the TFOB ceremony.
